Mohammad Asil, the Taliban district chief in Tagab district of Badakhshan, has resigned from his position after what he called “insulting treatment” and “humiliation” by local officials of the group.

Mohammad Asil, in an audio message published on WhatsApp and social media, said that he went to the office of Rahmatullah Najib, the Taliban governor in Badakhshan, to raise the problems of the people of Tagab, but after waiting for more than four hours, he was unable to meet with the governor.

In this message, he says that the governor’s secretary treated him “insultingly,” and due to what he called the “arrogance” and inappropriate behavior of local Taliban officials, he decided to resign from his duties.

This Taliban district chief added that he has become “fed up” with the responsibility the group assigned to him, and that the situation of the people of Badakhshan is worrying to him.

In his message, Mohammad Asil addressed Taliban members, saying that despite efforts to convey the problems of the people of Tagab to local officials, he was unable to share the demands and problems of the residents of this district with the governor due to not being given the opportunity to meet.

Taliban officials in Badakhshan have so far not commented on Mohammad Asil’s resignation and the claims he has made.

The resignation or departure of local Taliban officials, especially following disagreements or dissatisfaction with the behavior of the group’s senior officials, can reflect the challenges existing in administrative relations among local Taliban officials.
