NBC News has reported that eight U.S. Marines were wounded after an Iranian anti-ship cruise missile struck a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.

The network reported on Monday, September 28 (Mizan 6), citing three U.S. government officials, that the incident occurred about two weeks ago, on September 14 (Sunbula 23), and that the wounded forces included seven soldiers and one officer.

According to U.S. officials, the vessel on which these forces were present was not a U.S. warship; however, the type and specifications of that vessel have not been disclosed.

Sources told NBC that the wounded forces experienced symptoms including headaches, smoke inhalation, and possible signs of brain injury after the incident.

Although some of them returned to their duties shortly after the incident, about 10 days later their names were recorded on the official U.S. Department of Defense casualty list as wounded forces.

According to the latest Pentagon statistics, 37 other U.S. forces have also been added to the list of wounded in the war with Iran, of whom 29 were Navy forces and eight were Marines.

By this count, the official figures announced by the United States show the number of killed forces in this war as 19 and the number of wounded as 861.
