Hossein Mohebbi, spokesman for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), says the Strait of Hormuz is not only not open, but is “the IRGC Navy’s hunting ground for American subsurface vessels.”
According to an IRNA news agency report, Mohebbi said on Monday, September 28 (Mizan 6) that an advanced American subsurface vessel conducting a reconnaissance mission in the Strait of Hormuz was caught in a “trap” during a “coordinated intelligence and electronic warfare operation.”
He stated: “It is not just hunting; it is a technological and intelligence bounty.”
However, the U.S. military has rejected the IRGC’s announcement claiming the seizure of an advanced American underwater drone that was conducting reconnaissance operations in the Strait of Hormuz.
Tim Hawkins, spokesman for the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), told Al Jazeera that the United States “maintains full control of all its operational drones” and called the IRGC’s claim “clearly born of desperation.”
