Heavy rainfall and storms in parts of India and Nepal have caused flooding and landslides, resulting in at least 19 deaths and 10 workers missing.

According to a Reuters report, local officials have said that in India’s Uttar Pradesh state, 15 people were killed and five others wounded over the past 48 hours, and 117 homes were also damaged.

Heavy rainfall and storms have affected 63 districts of this state, and the amount of rainfall in the 24 hours leading up to Saturday was reported to be 19 times the usual average.

In Nepal, four people, including three children and one woman, died after a landslide buried their home while they were sleeping in the village of “Nishi Khola” in Baglung district.

Also, 10 Nepali workers have gone missing after an avalanche buried a base camp of “Himalung Himal” mountain in Manang district in the north of the country.

According to local officials, these workers were setting up tents for foreign climbers, and foreign climbers were not present at the location when the avalanche occurred.

Nepali authorities have warned about the possibility of flash floods in 49 out of 77 districts of the country.

The report said that water levels of a number of major rivers and their tributaries are still rising.

In India as well, the Central Water Commission has announced that the situation of 30 water level measurement stations in seven states has been reported as “severe,” and water levels in a number of rivers, including the Ganges, Gandak, Kosi, Bagmati, and Narmada, have exceeded the warning level.

Meanwhile, Nepali authorities have said that flooding in the “Rahuganga” river has damaged facilities and foundations of power transmission lines of a 40-megawatt hydropower project, and a technical team has been dispatched to assess the damage and rebuild it.

Floods and landslides have also disrupted telecommunications in parts of Nepal and damaged fiber optic networks and power equipment.
