Taliban officials in Helmand have announced that they discovered and seized three vehicles carrying 130 cartons of medicine smuggled from Pakistan in the Bahramcha district of Helmand, near the border.
According to these officials, the medicines were loaded “illegally” and entered Afghanistan from Pakistan on Saturday, September 26.
The Taliban added that the seized shipment of medicines was set on fire after discovery. No information was provided regarding the arrest of individuals connected to this shipment.
Local Taliban officials have said that the group’s forces will continue efforts to prevent goods smuggling and ensure security along the border.
The continued closure of Afghanistan-Pakistan crossing points in recent months has affected the market for certain goods, including medicine, and reports of price increases and smuggling of various goods have been published.
