Stéphane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, has announced that the organization continues to follow the critical situation of the Afghan people, especially women and girls who are deprived of their most basic rights year after year.

Speaking to Afghanistan International on Saturday, September 26, he said that Afghanistan remains one of the important topics on the organization’s agenda, and efforts continue to help the country emerge from international isolation.

In response to the question of what efforts the Secretary-General and his team are making if he has not forgotten Afghanistan, he said that several processes are underway simultaneously; from the Doha process to the activities of the UN political mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and humanitarian missions.

Dujarric described the ultimate goal of these efforts as Afghanistan’s responsible return to the international community.

Pointing to the extensive challenges the Afghan people are facing, he noted that the United Nations continues to be present alongside them directly and on the ground.
