Amrullah Saleh, the former vice president in the previous government, said in an analysis that Pakistan’s approach toward Afghanistan and the Taliban is changing along five parallel tracks.

Saleh said on Thursday,  September 24, 2026 — in a message posted on X that Islamabad has linked trade and economic relations with Afghanistan to security and political issues, is using its air capability to carry out attacks in Afghanistan, and is trying to gain international support for its actions.

He also added that Pakistan has secured political support inside the country for military actions against Afghanistan and, at the same time, is consulting with anti-Taliban currents about political arrangements after the Taliban.

Saleh described these actions as a sign of a significant change in Pakistan’s policy toward Afghanistan and called on the Taliban to pay attention to a political and inclusive solution in the face of this situation.

It is worth noting that Pakistan has not officially said anything about this matter.

These remarks come as Pakistan has once again carried out airstrikes on Afghanistan.
