Gitanas Nausėda, the President of Lithuania, in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, strongly criticized Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and said that Moscow “has already lost the war.”

According to a Sky News report, Gitanas Nausėda said on Tuesday, the 22nd of September, at this meeting, referring to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, that this conflict has now surpassed the length of World War I.

He claimed that Russia has suffered approximately 1.5 million military casualties over the past 55 months, of which, he said, about 400,000 are killed and wounded on the battlefield.

Nausėda also added that in exchange for this level of casualties and war costs, Russia has gained only about 0.3 percent of Ukraine’s territory.

He said: “Despite all these enormous efforts and all this blood and tears, essentially everything has come to nothing; Ukraine still stands proudly as an independent country.”

He stated that Russia’s leadership refuses to accept its defeat because it fears international consequences and the possible reaction of the Russian people.

Nausėda further warned that what he described as “inevitable” is drawing closer, and as the Kremlin finds itself in a more difficult position, the risks and consequences of the war will also increase.

These remarks come as the Russia-Ukraine war continues, and the parties involved disagree on assessments of casualties, territorial gains, and the military situation of the war.
