Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, has said that the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened as long as America does not fulfill its commitments.
On Sunday, September 20, Qalibaf said in Iran’s Parliament that Tehran has conveyed its messages and conditions to the other side through intermediaries.
He added that until the legitimate rights of the Iranian nation are recognized and America fulfills its commitments, there will be no basis for returning to the previous process of negotiations.
The Speaker of Iran’s Parliament also made the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz conditional on the realization of these conditions — a strait that is considered one of the most important routes for the transfer of oil and energy in the world.
This comes as about one-fifth of the world’s consumed oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz, and any disruption in the movement of ships in this waterway could affect the global energy market.
