Eugene Vindman, a Democratic representative in the US House of Representatives, has introduced a resolution to honor and pay tribute to Ahmad Shah Massoud, the former commander of the Afghan resistance.

Mohammad Javad Rahimi, a member of the Democratic Party, has said that this resolution was registered in the US House of Representatives on Wednesday, September 16, and was referred to the Foreign Affairs Committee of this House for review.

The text of the resolution refers to Massoud as the former military leader of the resistance against the Taliban and states that he was killed 25 years ago, on September 9, 2001, in an attack attributed to al-Qaeda and the Taliban.

Ahmad Shah Massoud was one of the influential figures in Afghanistan’s contemporary history during the war with the Soviet army and then the Taliban. Afghanistan’s former government had also given him the title of “National Hero.”

This comes as the city of Sacramento, the capital of California, had previously declared September 9 as “Ahmad Shah Massoud Day.”
