The White House has rejected the report of the United Nations Independent Fact-Finding Mission on Iran, which stated that there are “reasonable grounds” to believe the United States may have committed war crimes in two attacks on Iran on February 28.
Anna Kelly, a White House spokesperson, said on Thursday, the 26th of Sunbula, in reaction to the report, that the UN Human Rights Council “has achieved nothing in the field of human rights for decades and has made baseless statements.”
She added that from the US government’s perspective, the Islamic Republic of Iran is the only party to this war that has committed war crimes.
This comes as the mission announced that at least 178 civilians were killed in the two US attacks on Iran.
In its report, the fact-finding mission wrote that the Shajareh Tayyebeh Primary School in Minab was the “intended point of impact” in one of the attacks, and that US forces did not sufficiently verify before the attack whether the building was a military target or not.
According to the report, more than 150 people, including about 120 children, were killed in the attack on this school.
The mission also examined another attack on the same day on a sports complex and a residential area in Lamerd.
