Kazakhstan’s representative at the UN Security Council says the international community’s engagement with the Taliban does not mean recognizing the group, and isolating Afghanistan will not be a sustainable solution for the country.

On Wednesday, 25 Sunbula, he emphasized continuing principled and pragmatic engagement with Afghanistan and said humanitarian aid, though necessary, cannot be a long-term solution to the country’s problems.

Kazakhstan’s representative described creating job opportunities, strengthening the private sector, expanding trade and investment, and connecting Afghanistan to regional economic networks as important for the country’s economic stability.

He also said the return of more than six million Afghans since 2023 has increased pressure on Afghanistan’s labor market and public services.

According to him, Kazakhstan also sent a high-level delegation to Afghanistan in June, and more than 50 Kazakh companies participated in the two sides’ trade meeting.

This comes as Kazakhstan’s representative further emphasized the participation of women and girls in Afghanistan’s development process and said the country’s sustainable development is not possible without their meaningful participation.
