Nargis Nehan, women’s rights activist and former Minister of Mines and Petroleum of Afghanistan, described the country’s current crisis as a serious human rights and humanitarian situation and emphasized the need for a credible political process to address it.

Nehan said on Wednesday, September 16 (25 Sunbula), at the UN Security Council meeting on Afghanistan, that any political solution for the country must be shaped under the leadership of the Afghan people, with women having a real share in it.

She emphasized that Afghan women must have the opportunity to participate in political dialogue so they can express their views and demands about the country’s future.

The women’s rights activist also said that Afghan women and civil society institutions currently face a low level of international support.

According to Nehan, providing the ground for the Taliban’s participation in the negotiation process is a responsibility that falls on the international community, including members of the UN Security Council.

It is worth noting that the UN Security Council meeting on Afghanistan is currently underway.
