Hamdullah Mohib, the former National Security Advisor of Afghanistan, has published a book titled “Shadows Over Kabul; An Insider’s Account of the Fall of the Afghan Republic,” in which he presents his account of the fall of the republican system.
The book was published in English on Thursday September 17, the 26th of Sunbula. In it, Mohib accuses Zalmay Khalilzad, the former US Special Representative for Afghanistan, of “betrayal” and says that he bears a major part of the responsibility for the fall of the Afghan Republic.
The book, written in collaboration with Tom Hussain, harshly criticizes Khalilzad’s performance in the process of US negotiations with the Taliban and describes his role in this process as “a great betrayal.”
According to Mohib, during a trip to Pakistan and after returning to Kabul, Khalilzad did not inform Ashraf Ghani, the former President of Afghanistan, of the details of his talks.
Mohib added that Afghan government officials later discovered that Khalilzad had met with the Taliban during his trip to Pakistan.
