At least five people have been killed and 20 others injured after a collision between a 580-type vehicle and a tanker in northern Salang.

Local Taliban authorities in Baghlan province say the accident occurred at around 2:00 a.m. on Friday, October 30, at the entrance to northern Salang.

Nazirullah Abedi, head of Baghlan’s traffic department, said the victims had been taken to hospital and that an investigation had been launched to determine the cause of the accident.

Traffic accidents claim hundreds of lives and leave many others injured in Afghanistan every year.

Poor road conditions and driver negligence are considered among the main causes of such incidents.
