Shamila Chaudhry and Colin Jackson, co-chairs of the “Afghanistan War Commission,” have met with Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan.
Dawn newspaper reported on Monday night, September 28, that the American delegation acknowledged Pakistan’s role during the US war in Afghanistan and praised the country’s contribution.
According to the report, the Pakistan Army said that the delegation’s meeting with Munir focused on Pakistan’s support, the region’s security environment, and developments in Afghanistan, with a focus on views related to the commission’s activities.
During the meeting, Asim Munir emphasized the need to take into account the regional perspective and also to benefit from Pakistan’s experiences in assessing the strategic, diplomatic, and operational dimensions of the US war in Afghanistan.
It is worth noting that the US Congress established the “Afghanistan War Commission” five years ago as an independent body to review America’s decisions regarding the war in Afghanistan from June 2001 to August 2021.
