Mohammad Hassan Saqib, the spokesman for the Taliban security command in Nuristan, has claimed that at least 38 opposition forces were killed in clashes over the past three days in the Kamdesh district of the province.

He told Radio Hurriyat, a Taliban-affiliated media outlet, on Monday, September 28, that during these clashes, 60 other armed opposition forces were also arrested in the district.

Saqib stated that some opposition forces were arrested after being wounded in the clashes, and others surrendered.

The local Taliban official noted that “clearance operations” continue in Kamdesh district of Nuristan.

This comes as the Afghanistan Freedom Front said on Saturday that parts of Kamdesh district in Nuristan and Nari district in Kunar had been “liberated” from the Taliban.

According to the front, its forces killed 37 Taliban members and wounded 24 others in clashes in Kamdesh district of Nuristan and Nari district of Kunar.

The Freedom Front has called the Taliban’s report on casualties and arrests of opposition forces “fake” and added that the Taliban forcibly recorded and published confession videos using tourists in Nuristan as detained individuals.
