India’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that a shipment of the country’s humanitarian aid for government hospitals in Kabul has arrived in Afghanistan.
Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on Sunday, September 27 (Mizan 5), on the social media platform X that this shipment includes critical medicines and medical consumables.
According to Jaiswal, the health sector remains at the center of India’s humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
This comes as India’s pharmaceutical and medical aid to Afghanistan has increased following heightened tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan.
Approximately one year ago, after clashes with Pakistan, the Taliban banned the import of medicines from that country and asked traders to seek alternative routes to meet health needs.
The dispatch of a new pharmaceutical shipment from India to Kabul comes as Afghanistan remains dependent on imports of medicines and foreign humanitarian aid to meet its health needs.
