Nasir Ahmad Faiq, the acting head of Afghanistan’s mission to the United Nations, has condemned Taliban fighters’ raid on the home of Hamid Karzai, the former president of the country, and the prevention of people and tribal elders from meeting with him.

Faiq said on Thursday, September 24, in a message on X that he heard with concern the news of insulting treatment of those visiting Karzai’s home and strongly condemns such behavior.

He added that Afghanistan cannot be governed by force, threats, and silencing dissenting voices, and that this approach brings neither legitimacy nor stability.

Faiq said that Karzai, as a former president and one of the country’s well-known political figures, has the right to live in Afghanistan with dignity and security, to meet with people, and to express his views.

He emphasized that the way out of Afghanistan’s crisis must be sought through national dialogue, tolerance, respect for citizens’ rights, and the creation of a genuine and inclusive political process.

This comes as sources said yesterday that Taliban members raided Hamid Karzai’s house and dispersed a group of people who had gone to visit him.

So far, the Taliban have not explained the reason for this treatment.

Hamid Karzai has also not officially said anything about this matter.
