Taneen TV has spoken to at least three guides, known as “smugglers,” along the Iran-Afghanistan border, indicating an increase in the illegal migration of families to Iran.

They said on Thursday, November 5, that illegal migration to Iran has increased in recent months, including among women and children.

Murad, a pseudonym for one of the guides, says he alone sends around 10 families to Iran each day through the “Raja” and “Moshkel” border crossings.

These crossings are located near Nimroz province, and most undocumented migrants travel to Iran through these routes.

Hafiz Khan, also a pseudonym, is responsible for coordinating undocumented migrants with smugglers. He also speaks of an increase in the migration of families to Iran.

Smugglers charge migrants based on the routes and the risks involved. They take migrants to Iran in exchange for between 20 million and 60 million tomans.

The increase in the illegal migration of families comes as wages for Afghan workers in Iran have declined significantly.

However, migrants say they are leaving the country because of poverty and a lack of employment opportunities.

Javad, a 21-year-old young man, has arrived in Iran illegally. He says he was unemployed in Afghanistan and had been unable to find a job.

Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Afghanistan, said in his report that the Taliban’s policies are destroying the future of Afghan families and young people.
