The Taliban’s Disaster Management Authority says that 24 cases of people falling into water wells have been recorded in Afghanistan over the past year.

Mohammad Yousuf Hamad, the spokesman for this authority, said on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 — that 15 people died and 9 others were rescued as a result of these incidents.

According to Hamad, the victims of these incidents included 11 children and four men.

He added that a special rescue team has been established by this authority to respond to incidents of falling into water wells.

This comes as in recent years, numerous cases of people, especially children, falling into water wells have been reported. The lack of proper covering for wells and negligence in supervising children are cited as the main causes of these incidents.
