The Taliban’s Ministry of Information and Culture says that a landslide in the Chehelsetoon area of Kabul has put the historic minaret of this area at serious risk of destruction and damage.
The ministry said in a statement on Saturday, September 19, that the Chehelsetoon minaret, with hundreds of years of historical background, is located atop one of the heights of this area, and following the sliding of land and the shifting of part of the mountain, its condition has become worrying.
Taliban officials have not provided details about the exact extent of damage to this historic structure or specific measures to prevent its destruction.
Previously, Taliban officials had also warned about the possibility of the expansion of the landslide on the Chehelsetoon mountain and its threat to surrounding residential houses.
Taliban officials have cited unprofessional excavations and extraction on the mountain slopes as the main factors weakening the mountain’s structure and causing the landslide.
