Salahuddin Rabbani, head of the Jamiat-e Islami of Afghanistan, on the fifteenth anniversary of Burhanuddin Rabbani’s death, the former head of this party and former president of Afghanistan, has emphasized the preservation and continuation of his intellectual and political legacy.
On Sunday, September 20, Mr. Rabbani said in a message on this occasion that remembering and examining his intellectual and political personality is a collective responsibility of Afghan society.
He added that Burhanuddin Rabbani’s intellectual framework and worldview were based on human resource development, strengthening women’s role in various social spheres, the rule of law, reform at the top of power, the people’s right to determine their political destiny, ensuring justice, and meaningful participation.
According to him, Burhanuddin Rabbani considered monopolism, supremacism, and discrimination as factors behind the failure of political experiences in Afghanistan, and emphasized collective rationality, institutionalization of a consultative culture, moderation, and the adoption of national decisions.
The head of Jamiat-e Islami has said that given Afghanistan’s current conditions, the collapse of republican state institutions, and the legitimacy vacuum, attention to Burhanuddin Rabbani’s thoughts, human virtues, and political legacy is more necessary than ever for Afghanistan and its people.
In the conclusion of his message, Salahuddin Rabbani has committed that Jamiat-e Islami will strive to preserve and continue Burhanuddin Rabbani’s intellectual and political legacy and will make Afghanistan the home of all its citizens.
It is worth noting that Burhanuddin Rabbani, former president of Afghanistan and head of the High Peace Council, died on 29 Sunbula 1390 (solar calendar), equivalent to September 20, 2011, in a suicide attack in Kabul — an event that occurred during his efforts to advance the Afghan peace process.
