The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) office, on the occasion of World Drug Day, has emphasized continued support for health and human rights in Afghanistan and addressing the situation of drug users.
The agency announced on Friday, the 5th of Saratan, that in cooperation with partner organizations, it provides essential services for people with addiction in Afghanistan and supports their access to health services.
The UNDP has stated that the Global Fund programs to fight AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria help drug users through harm reduction services, including opioid substitution therapy.
According to the organization, these services are provided with the aim of reducing the health and social consequences of addiction and improving patients’ access to treatment and support services.
This comes as drug addiction remains one of the major health and social challenges in Afghanistan, with thousands of people across the country facing its consequences.
