The spokesperson for the Taliban governor in Laghman Province announced that the group’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice and Complaints Handling collected and destroyed 288 pieces of various musical instruments in the Qarghayi district of the province.
Abdul Malik Niazi, the spokesperson for the Taliban governor in Laghman, said the instruments were burned in a remote area during a transparent process and in the presence of a designated delegation and the Qarghayi district governor.
He wrote on his X page: “Officials of the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice said these items had caused the misguidance of the younger generation and corruption in society, therefore, in accordance with Sharia rulings and on the orders of the leadership, they were collected and destroyed at a specified time.”
According to the Taliban governor’s spokesperson in Laghman, among these items, 1,200 kilograms of expired food was also burned.
Since the Taliban’s return, artistic activities, especially music, have effectively stopped, and many of the country’s artists have either been confined to their homes or forced to leave the country.
The Taliban had declared their explicit opposition to music since their first period of rule, and after returning to power again, they have adopted a similar approach.
