{"id":1582,"date":"2026-09-28T11:15:11","date_gmt":"2026-09-28T11:15:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/taneen.tv\/en\/?p=1582"},"modified":"2026-09-30T11:57:36","modified_gmt":"2026-09-30T11:57:36","slug":"1627-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/taneen.tv\/en\/1627-2\/","title":{"rendered":"September 28; Anniversary of the Death of Dr. Najibullah, Former President of Afghanistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">Today, September 28, marks 30 years since the death of Dr. Najibullah, former President of Afghanistan, in Kabul city.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">After the fall of his government in 1992, Dr. Najibullah took refuge in the United Nations office in Kabul and remained there for nearly four years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">On September 28, 1996, coinciding with the Taliban&#8217;s entry into Kabul, gunmen entered the UN compound and took Najibullah and his brother Shahpur Ahmadzai with them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">Hours later, the bodies of both were hanged by Taliban fighters at Ariana Square.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">The United Nations condemned Najibullah&#8217;s death and the violation of the immunity of its compound.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">Dr. Najibullah&#8217;s death is considered one of the most important and controversial events in Afghanistan&#8217;s contemporary history.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span class=\"\">Najibullah came to the presidency of Afghanistan in 1986 and remained in power until 1992, even after the withdrawal of Soviet forces.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today, September 28, marks 30 years since the death of Dr. Najibullah, former President of Afghanistan, in Kabul city.
