Saleh Mohammad Rigistani, a former member of Afghanistan’s parliament and one of the commanders of the National Resistance Front, has said that he is in the Hindu Kush Mountains and that the resistance against the Taliban continues.
Rigistani said on Monday, September 21, in a video published on the National Resistance Front’s X account, that he had returned to Afghanistan and was based in the Hindu Kush Mountains.
He said that since the Taliban returned to power, people have been killed without due judicial process, homes have been raided illegally, individuals have been arbitrarily detained, Afghanistan’s mines have been looted, and terrorist groups have established a presence in the country.
According to him, the resistance front, which in 2021 raised the “flag of resistance” in recognition of what it described as the Taliban’s “misogynistic nature,” continues its struggle against the group.
Rigistani said that, following the failure of political efforts to persuade the Taliban to allow the people of Afghanistan to exercise their right to self-determination, he believes armed struggle is one of the effective ways to free the country from the “grip of the Taliban.”
He added that the resistance front, in coordination with other fronts, continues its armed struggle.
The commander further said that the Taliban will eventually “collapse from within and outside” because of what he described as “oppression, corruption and injustice.”
The Taliban have not officially commented on the matter so far.
The video was published amid increased activity by anti-Taliban fronts in various parts of the country.
