International media have reported that in the past two days, only 12 cargo ships have passed through the Strait of Hormuz — a figure indicating a decrease of about two-thirds in the traffic of ships and oil tankers in this waterway.
Al Jazeera reported early Monday, September 21 , that on Saturday and Sunday of last week, 35 ships had passed through the Strait of Hormuz.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) had also previously announced that the threat level in this waterway remains high, and at least three attacks on ships have been reported in the past three days.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly, has said that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States adheres to its commitments in the temporary peace agreement of June.
This comes as the US has continued its blockade of Iran’s southern ports and announced that as of yesterday, it has forced 109 commercial ships to change course.
