Abdullah Abdullah, former head of Afghanistan’s High Council for National Reconciliation, on the occasion of the fifteenth anniversary of the assassination of Professor Burhanuddin Rabbani, has said that he fought until the end of his life for the realization of freedom, justice, equality, and peace in Afghanistan.

On Sunday, September 20, Mr. Abdullah said in a statement that he considered Rabbani one of the pioneers of the Islamic awakening and one of the intellectual leaders of the movement of struggle against despotism and occupation in Afghanistan.

He said that Rabbani believed in the interaction between Islamic heritage and contemporary intellectual and social needs, and considered ethnic groups, followers of different religions, and various identities as genuine peoples of Afghanistan.

According to Abdullah, Burhanuddin Rabbani struggled until the end of his life for the realization of Islamic and human values, freedom, justice, and equality.

In this statement, Abdullah Abdullah referred to Rabbani as the “martyr of peace” and the “wise elder,” describing him as a moderate politician, a tolerant jurist, and a peace-seeking leader in Afghanistan’s contemporary history.
