Hakan Fidan, Turkey’s Foreign Minister, says that his country is ready to meet Saudi Arabia’s military needs, if necessary, within the framework of the trilateral defense pact among Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan.
Fidan said on Saturday, September 19, to “NTV” network that the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty are very serious, and that Turkey has declared solidarity with Riyadh in this regard.
He added that Saudi Arabia may face needs in some military sectors, particularly in technical matters, and that Turkey will have no problem meeting these needs.
According to a Reuters report, the joint defense agreement known as the “Makkah Joint Defense Agreement,” which was signed last month among Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, considers an armed attack on any of these three countries as an attack on all members of the agreement.
Fidan also stated that it is unacceptable for Saudi Arabia to be dragged into a war between the United States and Iran, because Riyadh has no desire to join such a conflict.
He added that proposals to end the conflicts have been presented to the involved parties and expressed hope that these proposals will be accepted.
On the other hand, Pakistan has said that so far no discussion has taken place regarding Islamabad’s military response within the framework of the Makkah Agreement to Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, but that the country will act at the appropriate time.
The Houthis announced on Saturday that they targeted objectives in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, with missiles and drones.
Turkey has condemned these attacks and called for their immediate cessation.
