Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense has announced that after issuing security alerts about potential danger in Riyadh, the capital, and the city of Al-Kharj east of Riyadh, the situation has been declared normal.

Reuters reported on Saturday, September 19, that this was the second time Saudi authorities had warned about potential danger in these areas.

This is described as the first security alert in Riyadh since the increase in attacks by Iran-backed Houthis against Saudi Arabia.

A Reuters correspondent in the Al-Olaya district of Riyadh heard the sound of two explosions.

These alerts were issued several hours after the Houthi military spokesman announced the thwarting of what he called “criminal attempts” in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, blamed Saudi Arabia for them, and promised a response.

The Houthis, who control populated parts of Yemen and most of the country’s northern areas, have been carrying out attacks toward Saudi Arabia since July, after Saudi Arabia announced a naval blockade.

The United Nations Security Council also on Friday strongly condemned the Houthis’ continued attacks against Saudi Arabia, including attacks targeting the country’s civilian and energy infrastructure and resulting in the wounding of civilians, including women and children.
