The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), on the occasion of World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, has emphasized the necessity of protecting natural resources and preventing land degradation.

On Wednesday, the 27th of Jawza, UNESCO warned that climate change and unsustainable exploitation of natural resources have intensified the process of desertification and threatened the lives of millions of people in various parts of the world.

The organization also stated that low-income and vulnerable countries are more affected than others by the consequences of drought, declining water resources, and the deterioration of agricultural land quality.

According to UNESCO, strengthening water management programs, protecting land, and sustainably using natural resources are among the most important solutions to address these challenges.

This comes as World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is observed every year on June 17, aiming to raise global awareness about the dangers of land degradation and encourage countries to adopt effective solutions to protect the environment.
