Gianni Infantino, President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), has announced that the possibility of increasing the number of teams participating in the 2030 World Cup from 48 to 64 will be reviewed after the 2026 World Cup ends.

He told the Swiss media outlet “Blick” on Sunday, 21 Saratan, that the relevant FIFA committees will evaluate this proposal and decide on it.

Infantino emphasized that the World Cup must provide the opportunity for participation to all countries of the world, and not be limited to teams from Europe and South America.

According to the FIFA President, the level of football in various countries is progressing, and increasing the quota could strengthen the motivation of smaller countries to develop football.

The 2030 World Cup will be hosted jointly by Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, Morocco, Portugal, and Spain; the first three matches will be held in South America, and the rest of the competition will take place in Europe and Africa.
