Autumn season and longing for Kabul University

When autumn arrives, I don’t know why I remember Kabul University more than any other time; memories of days whose value we perhaps didn’t appreciate as we should have at the time.

I remember sitting near the Faculty of Engineering with my friends, watching the leaves fall from the trees for hours. Leaves that slowly changed color and turned the university campus into a beautiful and unforgettable image.

I remember we would line up to take photos with some of my classmates. Sometimes, for a simple photo, we would search for a beautiful corner for a long time to capture that moment; a moment that might have seemed ordinary that day, but today is part of the most precious memories of my life.

Kabul University is beautiful in all seasons, but its autumn is something else.

The university’s autumn wasn’t just about the leaves changing color; it was the season of leaving class, walking around the campus, sitting with friends, and making memories whose true value you only understand years later.

In those days, students sometimes were more interested in the outdoors and the leaves that gave the university a new color every day than in the classroom.

The sound of footsteps on dry leaves, friendly conversations, and the photos we took with a thousand eagerness were all part of days that will never be repeated.

Now that autumn has arrived, I miss Kabul University more than ever; its corridors, its trees, those friendly gatherings, and the days when we spent our youth there.

My heart longs for Kabul University as much as its beauty deserves; for a place that wasn’t just a place to study, but was part of our life, youth, and memories.

Perhaps autumn leaves fall again every year, but those days at Kabul University are no more. Some memories are not like those leaves that turn green again with the arrival of spring; some memories only remain in the heart and are revived again with every autumn.
