Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that the country’s Minister of State for International Cooperation has met with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan.

The ministry wrote in a newsletter on X on Thursday, 24th of September, that Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, met with Roza Otunbayeva, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of UNAMA, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not provided further details about the topics of this meeting.

This comes as Roza Otunbayeva has recently been appointed as the head of UNAMA.

On the other hand, Qatar has close relations with the Taliban and has supported this group over the past five years.
