Turkmenistan says that with the completion of the Serhetabat–Herat section of the TAPI pipeline, the ground will be prepared for the transfer of natural gas to Afghanistan and then Pakistan in 2027.
According to a Caspian Post report, Atajan Movlamov, Turkmenistan’s ambassador to Pakistan, said on Monday, the 21st of September, at the Ambassadors’ Dinner 2026 hosted by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Islamabad, that the construction of the Serhetabat–Herat section of the TAPI pipeline is expected to be completed this year.
He stated that the completion of this section will provide the necessary conditions for the start of natural gas transfer to Afghanistan in 2027.
He added that the implementation of the TAPI project and other regional energy projects can help ensure reliable energy supply and create opportunities for industrial development and economic growth in Pakistan.
The TAPI pipeline is about 1,800 kilometers long and is designed to transfer up to 33 billion cubic meters of gas annually from Turkmenistan’s Galkynysh gas field to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India.
Turkmenistan considers the TAPI project one of the important routes for diversifying gas exports and strengthening regional economic cooperation.
