The United Nations, in its latest report on Afghanistan’s situation, has said that armed groups opposing the Taliban claimed responsibility for 88 attacks across 21 Afghan provinces between May 1 and the end of July.
According to the report published on Wednesday, September 16 , the UN verified 55 of these attacks, and the number of attacks in July reached 30.
The report states that armed anti-Taliban groups became more dispersed and decentralized during this period, focusing more on operations in local areas.
The report says the attacks mainly consisted of ambushes and attacks on Taliban checkpoints and military facilities.
The UN also stated that between May 1 and July 31, a total of 2,947 security incidents were recorded in Afghanistan — an 11 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The UN Secretary-General’s report is scheduled to be reviewed at the Security Council meeting on Afghanistan.
It is worth noting that the Freedom, United, and Resistance fronts occasionally claim responsibility for attacks against the Taliban in various parts of the country.
